About

In September of 2017, an opportunity came to me in which I was offered the chance to expand my portfolio in a completely new environment, living and working on a historical plantation estate, turned guesthouse in St Lucia. I was hired to build a new wooden guesthouse for the estate, though unfortunately as everything ran on St Lucia time, delays with the floor of the property meant I was not able to carry out my contracted work during my time there. Nevertheless, I was never short of carpentry work with constant termite infestations to the 200 year old existing buildings and furniture requiring repairs, as well as new furniture and fixtures to be built.

Before beginning my career in carpentry, I studied graphic design, having always had a passion and natural aptitude for drawing and creating, having been commissioned pieces for shops and graphic illustrations. It has been a skill set that has served me well in my carpentry thus far and I feel makes me a great natural carpenter, I love this trade and what it has brought me so far and can not wait to see what it brings me next, I am always ready to learn. I hope to continue progressing and would love the chance to get involved with more design work within framing projects or joinery.

I joined the Carpenter Oak and Woodland team in 2014, after the opportunity came to undertake an apprenticeship with the company. Having family friends within timber framing for a few years prior to this and always admiring the trade, I was keen to be given the chance to learn for myself. I was taken under the professional wings of Pete Eyles and Oliver Whitmore (plus every other carpenter there, for that matter) and gained some invaluable advice, framing techniques, learnt how to put all of this together on site and much more. Thanks to Charlie and the sales team at COWCO, I was able to work on a huge variety of amazing frames, as well as venturing out into the realms of timber engineered structures, with an array of odd jobs in between. During my time at the company, I completed my level 2 NVQ qualification, gained a variety of tickets for site, the opportunity to manage a project and have come out a professional and competent carpenter.
